We are on day three of The Great Binky Ban of 2011. Mireya is nearly 15 months old now, so it's time to get her OFF the binkies! Honestly, they are way more of a crutch to me and Jason than they ever were for Mireya. I originally didn't want to ever even give her a binky, but at some point in like the second or third week after she was born, in the middle of the night, when she was upset and I hadn't slept in who-knows-how-long, Jason begged me to let him go out and buy some. I agreed and while Mireya slept peacefully in her bassinet, I became a binky believer. Oh, those binkies have been a fabulous addition to our family! We have aquired numerous different types of binkies over the last 14+ months, but it's time to let them all go. I will have fond memories of them, but our farewell is long overdue.
Jason and I have come up with so many excuses as to why we shouldn't try to get rid of them: Mireya is sick, we have to go out of town next week, other people let their kids have them way past now, she only uses them to sleep, etc. etc. Yes, if I took the time to think about it, I am quite sure that I could remember at least 20 different excuses that either I or Jason came up with to prolong their use.
Well, I finally pulled the plug three days ago, starting with naps and progressing to bedtime. Surprisingly, it's not been too bad. There have been tears, both Mireya's and ours, but I think we are almost there. If we can maintain our willpower, Mireya will hopefully have forgotten about them by the end of the week. Wish us luck!
