Mireya Picasso Wallo
Mireya loves to color. Every morning after she eats breakfast, I take her into her room to get dressed for the day. While I'm getting her out of her pajamas and into her day clothes, she's getting out all her coloring books and her pail of crayons. She generally colors for 10 minutes or so before moving on to other things. One day, I had to do something really quickly, so against my better judgment I left her alone with the crayons. I got back to her maybe 2 minutes later, no big deal right? Wrong. The first thing I noticed were the shredded coloring books, then I saw that when she grinned at me her teeth were all different colors. (She had clearly needed a morning snack of Crayola.) The next thing I saw was the wall. Mireya had scribbled all over a small section of it. She was very proud of it and eager to show me. It wasn't much, but ever since she realized that the crayons write on more than just her coloring books, I have to watch her very closely. She has now tried them on everything from the walls, to her clothing, to Daddy's face. Good news folks! Crayola crayons work on everything!

Mireya Loved the Groovefest
We went to the Groovefest/Arts Festival today and had so much fun! Mireya loved the music. She danced and sang with the live bands that were playing. She also thoroughly enjoyed meandering around the various booths. It was a little frustrating from time to time, because she wanted to touch everything, of course.
We stopped at the food booths first. We got a funnel cake that she devoured and said, "Mmmmm. Mmmm." She also ate several caramels and she drank almost our entire lemonade. I went to get a drink and it was down to nearly all ice. When I asked Jason if he drank it, he said no and when we looked at Mireya, she smiled really big and said, "Mmmm..." She is so funny! We also got a caramel apple, but Mireya only wanted the apple part and she kept handing me the sucked on, soggy caramel peel portions. Joy.
Mireya got to see a ton of different dogs. I think anyone who owned a dog in Cedar brought it with them to the festival. Mireya adores dogs and she "woofed" at each of them. It was clear that she was intrigued with all the various sizes that dogs come in. She saw huge huskies, tiny terrier puppies, and every size in between. She is going to love it when we get a dog. Surprisingly though, she was very nervous whenever she had the opportunity to actually touch a dog. She didn't seem to like the idea that they weren't going to be as aloof about it as our kitties. They wanted to sniff her face and lick her hands and she wasn't going to let them. Ah well. I saw it as a great excuse to pet dogs... "Excuse me, my daughter would love to pet your dog. Would that be alright?" :) I did most of the petting.
The coolest part of the whole festival was this booth with a guy who was drawing names using a technique called leather brush art. Mireya hasn't got a clue how amazing it was, but when she's older, I think she's really going to appreciate having her name drawn in such a way. It was an absolutely phenomenal thing to watch. The man made each letter out of an animal or a nature scene and they all have different meanings. Mireya's are as follows: M-Mountain with a Waterfall--bravery and hero. I-Penguin--Success. R-Lighthouse and Dolphin--happiness and strength. E-Catcus, Canyon, Bird and Sun-- long life, bravery, good luck, and ambition. Y-Monkey and a Palm Tree--wisdom and long life. A-Bird and a Butterfly--good luck and pleasure.

15 Month Wellness Visit
Mireya had her 15 month wellness visit last Tuesday, June 14th. She screamed bloody murder the entire time, so it wasn't much fun. These are her stats:
She is still very skinny and she hasn't gained more than a few ounces, but she is growing well. She has grown an inch since her last visit. (That explains why she can suddenly reach things that she didn't used to be able to...) The doctor thinks that she might just be a skinny kid. He said she looks great and shows no sign of malnutrition, which is good. I can't imagine that she would show any nutrition deficiencies considering how much she eats.
Her favorite food currently is still the cheesy eggs. They are scrambled eggs covered in cheddar cheese and she adores them. In fact, after we got home tonight, I asked her if she wanted come cheesy eggs and she nodded with her whole body like she does for yes (SO CUTE!) and then she said, "cheesy eggs!" I couldn't believe it! It was crystal clear! She is talking more and more every day!
This morning as I was unpacking the produce from Bountiful Baskets, she saw the plums and got excited, so I handed her one. She immediately started eating it just like an apple. She has never had plums before, but it was clear that she thought they were the "cat's meow." She ate several actually.
We went to Costco today and they had free samples everywhere. One of those was a man handing out different types of cheesecake. We got Mireya some raspberry white chocolate and she couldn't stop saying, "Mmmmmmm!!!! Mmmmm!" I actually went back and got more for her a couple of times and even though she was a mess, she was thrilled. She got so silly! She was playing funny little baby games while she was eating it and Jason and I could barely keep it together. We laughed and laughed and I think everyone thought we'd lost our marbles.
Mireya is the cutest baby EVER! I will never quit saying that, because it is more and more true every day! I LOVE MY BABY GIRL!!!!!
- Weight- 18 pounds 4 ounces, 1.23 percentile
- Height- 30.5 inches, 49th percentile
- Head Circumference- 17.5 inches, 13th percentile

Mireya is 15 Months Old
Mireya is 15 months as of June 5th. The time just seems to be flying by and she's is just growing so fast. In the last two weeks she has gotten a lot taller. I won't know for sure how much taller until her 15 month checkup next week. I hope that she is finally gaining weight too. She is definitely healthy and happy!
She has started to say a lot of new words. In addition to Mama, Dada, Nana, woof, no, and moo, she can now say: hot, hi, dog, yep, meow, banana (more like nanana) and ball. There are numerous other words that she is trying to say, but they aren't quite there yet. She can name almost all her body parts now with ease. Also, she has learned to kiss with her mouth closed. She always would lean in to kiss you with her mouth open and while it was sweet, it was very slobbery too. Now she puckers her lips and makes a kissing sound. She even makes her dolls and stuffed animals give kissed to both of us and our kitties. It's so CUTE! Sometimes, if you're really lucky, she'll blow you a kiss. That's super cute.
Mireya is learning how to play pretend with things. For example, she will take a travel size baby powder and pretend to shake it onto her leg and then rub it in. Sometimes she "powders" her dolls too. She does the same thing with lotion bottles. I've even caught her making her dolls walk and she makes the cutest little sounds when they "walk" around. Sometimes I will sit and watch her when she doesn't know it. I am always in awe of her beauty and intelligence. I inevitably end up unsuccessfully stifling a laugh and then she looks at me like, "What?" She's the best. She does such funny things.
She is really enjoying coloring. She wants to color every day now. I was thrilled until she realized this morning that crayons work on her clothes, her body, toys and a lot of other places too. Now I think I'm going to have to look into those Crayola marker things that only work on special paper. Oh, and she tried to eat her green crayon today and when I told her no, she simply smiled at me with green teeth. Fabulous...
Her sign language is improving steadily. She can now sign a whole bunch of things. (She learns everything we teach her, but I admit I haven't been as diligent at teaching her as many signs as she is capable of learning.) She signs: milk, drink, please, thank you, more, eat, done and hat. She strings them together too. For example: more milk or more eat.
We have decided that she is definitely a shy girl. She will wave hello at anyone, but she doesn't want to actually interact very often. Today was one of the exceptions. She went with us to the chiropractors office and while we were waiting several children came in. She waved hello to all of them and then slowly started getting closer and closer to them. She ended up playing right alongside them with a busy box. It was so great to watch her study what the older boys were doing and then do the same thing. They were quiet, low key children and I think that was the difference.
Mireya got to fly a kite for the first time yesterday! We bought her a tiny ladybug kite from Walmart and she had so much fun with it. We LOVE taking her to the park and letting her run around. She really enjoys the swings and playing with all the sticks. The one part that's awful is when we go to leave. Mireya throws a HUGE hissy fit. It involves tears and flailing and screaming and the whole shebang. Oy. (Her allergies are horrible too.)
We were taking a video of her yesterday playing and while Jason and I were visiting for two seconds she ate some leaves. SHE ATE LEAVES! We had absolutely no idea until we watched the video back after she went to bed. I can't believe what a little stink she is!! We laughed until we cried. Anyway, here is one video of her flying the ladybug kite:

Mireya on the Potty

Potty Training
Mireya used her potty twice today! I'm so thrilled! She potties and then wipes and everything. She is such a smart little baby. Since she's doing so well, I decided that we better get a jar for "potty candy." When she goes in the potty, she will get one candy as a reward. I found a jar at Walmart that was very inexpensive and then I decorated it with one of her favorite things, ladybugs. It turned out so cute! The only problem is with the candy. Jason picked out Hershey's Drops and not only are they big for a sugary reward that she's going to get multiple times a day, but they also resemble the "potty" too much if you get my drift. The last thing I need is for her to think she makes her own "potty candy." lol Anyway, it's going well and I couldn't be happier.
